Reading List
  • A Programmer's Introduction to C#, by Eric Gunnerson
The first good book about C#, the backbone language of Microsoft's .Net platform.  If you're a Java programmer, picking up C# is quick, since they both share a common root in C++.  Eric is on the team that produced C#, and as such has a good grasp of not only what the language is, but how it should be used.

  • Cryptonomicon, by Neal Stephenson
Yes, the ending needs some work, but all in all, this was great. I found myself laughing out loud on the plane while reading this. The humor is mostly in the use of language, not slapstick. Don't wait for paperback.

  • Java Cryptography, by Jonathan Knudsen
I couldn't have finished my last project without this. JCE and specific service providers have hundreds of classes. This book provided the breadcrumbs.

  • Newton's Cannon, by J. Gregory Keyes
What if alchemy had a scientific basis?  Newton, Ben Franklin, Voltaire, and others of the "age of unreason" discover slightly different scientific principles, giving rise to a book that melds fantasy and science.  Alternate (obviously) history that has me running to the encyclopedia to see what "really" happened.  I just started the next one: A Calculus of Angels.
